Alan Bishop is an honorary member of the legendary band Sun City Girls and co-founder of the adventurous Sublime Frequencies label. Together with Egyptian musicians Cherif El Masri, Aya Hemeda, Adham Zidan and Magued Nagati he launched the remarkably rocking band Invisible Hands in 2011 – against the background of the Egyptian revolution in Cairo. On its title-less debut from 2013 the band effortlessly mixes vintage rock, psychedelics and folk. They continue along the same lines with ‘Teslam’, their second progeny, from 2014. On ‘Teslam’ they skillfully debone their razor-sharp songs – with occasional hints at Ennio Morricone, Serge Gainsbourg or the early Alice Cooper.
NEIL MICHAEL HAGERTY & THE HOWLING HEX
Over the past thirty years guitar player, producer and writer Neil Michael Hagerty made history with Pussy Galore, Royal Trux and Howling Hex. Lo-fi and anti-rock, boogie, kraut, harmolodics, avant-noise or pure songs and straight up rock ‘n’ roll: no musical genre is unfamiliar to Hagerty and he proves it with his more recent projects such as the noise rock band Dan’l Boone (with Nate Young (Wolf Eyes), Alexander Moskos (Aids Wolf) and Charles Ballas (Howling Hex)) or with James ‘Wooden Wand’ Toth in the surprisingly happy sounding Hagerty-Toth Band.
Despite his excellent production work for artists such as Bill Callahan (Smog) and Edith Frost and his work as a writer – sci-fi novel ‘Victory Chimp’ and the short stories series ‘Public Works’ - Hagerty mainly remains one of the most talented guitar- player–song-writers of his generation. A golden opportunity to experience this musical glutton solo on a Belgium stage, accompanied only by bass and drums.
Antwerp’s David Edren is one of the driving forces behind cassette label slash band Hare Akedod. When working solo he does so under the name DSR Lines. His tracks are inspired by analogue synth escapades by pioneers like Raymond Scott, Roger Roger and Mort Garson and the cosmic minimal of Terry Riley and the early Tangerine Dream. 2015 saw the LP release of ‘I-III’ (Ultra Eczema) and the cassette releases of ‘Teller’ (Lalalal) and ‘Analogie Van De Dageraad’ (Jj Funhouse). The LP release of the latter is scheduled for 2016. When you see DSR Lines live it is hypnotizing and instantly addictive.
