Hindu Nights ontstond in het voorjaar van 2008 als vuist tegen de 13-in-een-dozijn r&b, elektro en techno feestjes die het Belgische nachtleven beheersen. Het land waar elk gehucht zijn eigen festival heeft, waar Pukkelpop en Rock Werchter steevast uitverkopen en concerten van Peter Doherty,The Streets en Kings of Leon volle zalen lokken, gaat enkel uit op goedkope ninetiesnummers en commerciële house?

Hoog tijd dus voor een mentaliteitsverandering: rock and roll op de dansvloer! Niet meer dansen op doffe beats, maar op poppy gitaren. Geen David Guetta of Felix da Housecat, maar Arctic Monkeys, Oasis en Amy Winehouse. Feesten op Britse wijze met andere woorden.

Initiatiefnemers Peter Verbeke en Pieter Schaut bundelden de krachten met oudgedienden Phil Smith (Oasis tour-dj) en Paul Gallagher (jawel, broer van), en de eerste Hindu Nights was geboren. De toen nog onbekende The Black Box Revelation zorgde in een éivolle Make Up Club voor elektriciteit. De eerste Hindu Nights was een revelatie, het begin van iets groots.

En zo geschiedde; de uitverkochte edities stapelden zichzelf op, Hindu Nights kreeg zelfs een vervolgstuk op de Lokerse Feesten in 2009 en 2010, waar ze de muziek verzorgden tussen en na de optredens van Peter Doherty, Manic Street Preachers, The Sex Pistols, Babyshambles, The Van Jets, Paul Weller en The New York Dolls.

In 2010 stak Hindu Nights definitief de Oost Vlaamse provinciegrenzen over met een derde uitverkochte editie op rij in Het Depot te Leuven waar het rock ’n roll circus opnieuw neerstreek op 18 februari 2011 met niemand minder dan JEFF WOOTTON (Gorillaz/Beady Eye) op de line-up.

Deze editie werd gevolgd door een sublieme editie in de Gentse Vooruit met o.m. The Black Box Revelation, Broken Glass Heroes en Jeff Automatic (resident DJ in de legendarische Koko club op de Club NME nights in Londen).

De nieuwste hoogmis voor de alternatieve jeugd zal de derde editie in de Gentse VOORUIT zijn met een prachtige line up voor wellicht alweer een uitverkocht indie en rock ‘n roll feestje; en dit in de prachtige, exclusieve en legendarische concertzaal die op de vorige twee edities hélemaal volliep. De productie van dit feest wordt verzorgd door K-events die een lange traditie van topevenementen kennen.

Drew McConnell

Drew has been Peter Doherty’s friend and bass player in Babyshambles for a very long time. When his band’s not on the road he’s DJing all over Europe in the coolest clubs. Recently he has also collaborated with Carl Barat (The Libertines/Dirty Pretty Things) on a charity album. Drew brings the Glastonbury vibes with him and gives the ultimate British touch to Hindu Nights.

Paul Gallagher

Co founder of Hindu Nights, Paul has no more surprises for most of us. He claims to be the only DJ who only puts on tunes older than 1972, which… is fine really. Paul recently DJed on the first ever Pretty Green club night in London together with Andy Bell (Oasis, Beady Eye) and he’s looking at a world tour with his brother’s new band as their tour DJ.

Eppo Janssen

Together with Chokri, Eppo puts on Europe’s most alternative summer festival: Pukkelpop. He’s also a tracklist composer for quality radio shows on Studio Brussels and Radio 1. Eppo has been DJing on Hindu Nights for a number of times and he’s without a doubt the fans’ favorite.

Hindu Nights started in a small pub in Ghent when we thought we could do a better party than all the techno and electro nonsense that was around by just putting on Beatles, Oasis, Monkeys and Strokes tunes. That’s what we did, and that’s what we still do. Recently, Gunther (Mish Mash, Hard To Beat/Studio Brussels) has joined us and things have become even more exciting as you can imagine.
