Onze belangrijkste bestaansreden is niet in woorden te vatten, maar je kan het wel proeven!

Twee seizoenen geleden was de Portugese theatermaakster Patrícia Portela voor het eerst in Vooruit met haar Flatland-trilogie. Toen werd het publiek door een aandachtszieke James Bond-figuur gekidnapt. Nu gooit Portela het over een andere boeg. Met Banquet nodigt ze een 100-tal toeschouwers uit om het einde van de mensheid als sociologisch en politiek gegeven te vieren. Banquet is een project met performers, een muzikant en een chefkok. Samen maken ze een smakelijke voorstelling die het midden houdt tussen een luisterspel, een avontuurlijk diner en een debat over klonen en onsterfelijkheid in de toekomst.

Patrícia Portela werd onlangs in haar thuisland Portugal gelauwerd voor haar trilogie Flatland, die integraal gespeeld werd tijdens het Vooruitfestival Say it now. Maar ook in Vlaanderen voelt de artieste zich best thuis. Niet alleen heeft ze een hechte band met het dans- en performancegezelschap deepblue, in Vooruit vond ze bovendien een gelijkgestemde partner die haar producties enthousiast ondersteunt.

“Imagine you are invited to celebrate the ending of Mankind as a politically and sociologically complex concept, carrying thousands of years of unfinished and unresolved History. Imagine that at the same time you are also celebrating the first new clones that you have contributed for yourself by attending this “Symposium”.
Clones who will be the future “homo-narrationalis”, a new emotional man with an enormous historical, political, cultural and sociological database, and yet no personal link, no empathy, no envolvement with any past facts.
A man aware of the fictionality of his roots.
A man with a possibility of starting over, of having a second chance.
Are you ready to take in your hands the decision of that last jump into an unknown model of mankind?”
