National Science Foundation maakt winnaars Infographics 2006 bekend
Informatiegrafiek is het kunstig maar vooral duidelijk en efficiënt representeren van informatie door middel van exploded views, mindmaps, diagrammen, flowcharts, etc.
De eerste prijs van NSF gaat naar het German Aerospace Center (DLR) voor hun panoramisch-geografische weergave van een vulkaanketen in Hawai. De Mauna Kea-vulkaan, die een heel stuk onder de zeespiegel ligt, zou de grootste berg zijn op aarde met een voorsprong van 1000 meter op de Mount Everest.
De tweede prijs is voor een montage van de Mona Lisa, een ontwerp van de National Research Council of Canada samen met het Center for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France. In de montage is wetenschappelijke beeldtechnologie verwerkt (3-D scans, multispectrische foto’s) die naast de conditie van het schilderij ook de technieken van Leonardo da Vinci onthullen.
