The art of waiting

Latvian audiovisual artist Kate Krolle has designed an exclusive performance installation to mark the start of Vooruit’s new season. It’ll cost you 233 steps and 190 breaths to reach the 22-minute performance, which takes place at a height of 92 metres. As you make the climb, Kate Krolle will be waiting for you upstairs in a pitch-dark, pin-drop quiet room. And then? She will skilfully unite performance and fine art. A daring, innovative combination that deals with patterns of expectation, patience and the art of waiting in our lives.

Kate Krolle is an alumna of the Art Academy of Latvia. After graduating she moved to France where she carried out post-graduate audiovisual research at Le Fresnoy. Krolle utilises a broad range of media to create adventurous sounds and complementary silences. Her work regularly deals with the relationship between man and nature, our instincts, contemplation and meditation. Step into the tender world of Kate Krolle.

It’s possible to slip seamlessly between the different installations in the Gundega programme. In the sewing room in the attic of the Domzaal, you’ll find Hans Rosenström’s performance installation ‘Mikado’. In the Domzaal itself, Voldemārs Johansons’ sound installation ‘Thirst’ will bring you right into the heart of a stormy sea.
