Double bill with two of the most exciting choreographers of the moment
Michiel Vandevelde - Andrade
In 1928 the Brazilian poet Oswald de Andrade wrote his Cannibalist Manifesto, a plea to swallow up colonised cultures, to digest them and excrete them in a new form. In ‘Andrade’, with this manifesto in mind, dancer and choreographer Michiel Vandevelde explores what we view in the West as ‘invasive’. Based on video clips and advertising messages, Vandevelde reinterprets Western culture. He also throws the music and choreographies from his previous productions into the mix. But his central question remains: who is eating and who is eaten?
Alma Söderberg - Deep Etude
‘Andrade’ is the first item in a double bill, the second being ‘Deep Etude’ by the Swedish choreographer and singer Alma Söderberg. This production is a study of rhythms and physicality. By weaving together electronic sounds, live voice and dance, Söderberg creates a complex composition in which what we see and what we hear are inseparably intertwined.
Sound and movement swap roles, alternating positions in either the foreground or the background, the dance becoming the music while the movement drives the sound. ‘Deep Etude’ is a fascinating show in which the various talents of Söderberg converge.
