A story about blind love and betrayal

Meet Benny, a young Benedictine monk from St.Bavo's Abbey in Ghent. When forced to flee Flanders in the eleventh century, he begins a journey that takes him from France to the devastated Cordoba. He becomes engulfed in a time in which religious fanaticism makes the world burst at the seams.
'1095' is a satire and a lament, a story of blind love and betrayal, catastrophes and contrasting beauty.

Director Lisaboa Houbrechts mixes the word with images, installation, painting, music and costume. It reduces human interaction to its essence: making pure, raw emotion tangible. '1095' is not realistic theater, but it explores the alienation and the appropriation of history. What is, in fact, a historic performance? Lisaboa & Kuiperskaai were selected for the long-term residence P.U.L.S. and the KMSK Antwerp AIR-program.
