What is happiness?

One in three young people has ever been depressed. Like hormonal tornadoes, they are the victims of their own development, they are prone to stress, pressure, quarrel and teen drama. Rarely do they feel proud or happy. But what is happiness? What can trigger happiness? Does happiness lie outside of our comfort zone?

As children, we learn how to behave. As teenagers, we look for an identity that collides with our parents'. As adults we long for our bygone innocence. 'Trigger of Happiness' reflects on growing and becoming, on finding ourselves without losing ourselves in compulsive behavior - sex, food, games - or drugs.

For this show, performers Ana Borralho and João Galante collaborate with Jong Gewei and young adults between 18 and 23 years. Through the dreams and expectations of these young people, for whom the future is just a vague idea, they remember our current way of living in a rapidly changing world.

"Happiness, gladness or joy is a mental or emotional state of well/being defined by positive or pleasant emotions, ranging from contentment to intense joy.” - Wikipedia

Ana Borralho and João Galante have been working, performing, dancing, acting, creating, installing and photographing transdisciplinary projects together since 2012. For them, art is an essential part of society, its changes, and its problems. According to them, art is supposed to be active, transformative and human. In their search for non-professional actors and extras, they regularly organize workshops with local communities.
