The desire to be a line

Performer Geert Belpaeme - seen at Vooruit last year with 'Fünf Leichte Tanzspiele' and 'The act of dying' (de polen) - composes a prelude through movement. He wants to be a line, merging his long, thin limbs with a new movement vocabulary. In his solo show 'First', his starting point is the philosophical idea that through language, we, humans, are the creators of the reality in which we live.

Geert Belpaeme based his new performance on Tik Tak, string theory - a quantum mechanical description of gravity - and the essay 'The first man was an artist' by expressionist Barnett Newman. He aims to discover the essence of the drawn figure, only a shape yet alive. For this purpose, Belpaeme draws from the Japanese writing: the graceful act of drawing, and the final image converted into motion and choreography.
