Spectacular duel between a motorcyclist and a dancer
“I want to put people that look like objects on a stage.” - regisseur Théo Mercier
A desolate, underground parking. A stuntman and his motorcycle. A dancer on stilettos. The two characters plunge into an intense ritual transforming their environment changes into an arena. What follows is a brutal duel between motorcycle and man, between human and object.
In 'Radio Vinci Park' Théo Mercier - the enfant terrible of French contemporary dance - uses a familiar location from the urban underground as a metaphor for a nonconformist love affair. Stuntman Cyril Bourny faces off with his motorcyle, an extension of his own body. Dancer François Chaignaud surrenders to an intense dance with the beast, ready to seduce and lose all balance. A predatory choreography with extensive references to 'Crash' by David Cronenberg, but also to bullfights, flamenco, and the rites of Mexican shamanism.
In his work, French visual artist/director Théo Mercier explores the boundaries between anthropology, ethnography and geopolitics. He previously collaborated with François Chaignaud to produce 'Du futur faisons table rase'. Chaignaud performed at DAG/NACHT VAN DE DANS, along with Cecilia Bengolea in the show 'TWERK', in April 2017.
