A forced duet

Two men on a stage - one (him) seemingly lifeless and slow, the other (he) active and trying to seduce his partner into a dance. However, that attempt is turning ‘he’ himself into an inanimate thing. ‘Raphaël’ is a quest for the overlaps between subject and object, between intimacy and perversion - two bodies pushing the boundaries of what appears to be a pure dichotomy, to then let these boundaries blur in a mutual complicity.

Alexander Vantournhout and Bauke Lievens are joining forces once more. With the acclaimed 'ANECKXANDER' – at SMELLS LIKE CIRCUS last season - they became 2014 laureates of Circus Next and they won several prizes at TAZ (Theater aan Zee). ‘Raphaël’ is their second shared adventure and once again fits within Bauke Lievens' research project ‘Between being and imagining: towards a methodology for artistic research in contemporary circus’, funded by KASK School of Arts.
