German space age composer Felix Kubin – who performed at Vooruit last year with Lucrecia Dalt – is coming back to Ghent. With the help of 20 LUCA School of Arts students and an equal number of MS20 synthesizers he will be bringing an ode to his favorite instrument. The result: ‘A Choir of Wires’.
The MS20, a legendary synthesizer from the 80s from the equally legendary Japanese brand Korg, has been the favorite toy of artists like Aphex Twin, Daft Punk and Soulwax for years – and of Felix Kubin. For a few decades now Kubin has effortlessly been reconciling dadaistic audio plays, Weimar cabaret, space age synth-pop and avant-garde in his compositions. In his music you hear echoes of contemporary giants such as Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Ligeti, but also of bands such as Kraftwerk and DAF.
For ‘A Choir of Wires’ Felix Kubin composed a special unreleased piece of music, played on 20 MS20. This composition will only get played live once, on Friday February 12 in the Domzaal, with Kubin directing and 20 LUCA School of Arts students making up this unique orchestra from space.
