DENGUE DENGUE DENGUE
Straight out of Lima, Peru comes Dengue Dengue Dengue. Three years ago still an obscure band no one had heard of on the global stage, today celebrated as the ultimate new tropical bass sensation from the stables of the Portuguese Enchufada label.
This duo, consisting of designers/video artists Felipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira, created a mix of digital future cumbia, tropical bass, psychedelic dancehall, seventies chica and Chicago footwork in the night clubs and street parties of the hip Barranco quarter of Lima. Their sound is – in combination with colorful masks of their own design and slightly surrealistic visuals – the soundtrack to a tropical feverish dream in neon light. Extremely danceable and slightly 'mind expanding'!
People like Buraka Som Sistema, Diplo and ZZK-crew are big fans already, and each of their shows at Sonar and Dour festival turned the festival tent into a sweaty Latin-American underground club. Album 'Serpiente Dorada' was released on the Enchufada-label two years ago; their new album will be released in January.
NINOS DU BRASIL
Ninos Du Brasil is an Italian percussion duo piercing Brazilian carnival music with rabid punk, rave and minimal techno influences. Performance and visual artists Nino Vascellari and Nicolo Fortuni met in the Italian hardcore punk scene and discovered their shared love for Batucada, a percussion style inspired by African rhythms. After a few notorious performances where their brutal version of carnival rhythms, abrasive techno and noise chased away as many people as it brought to the dancefloor, their debut 'Novos Mistérios' was released on the renowned Hospital Productions, Prurient front man Dominick Fernow’s label. This summer it was followed by EP on the DFA label. For fans of William Bennett’s Cut Hands, Ron Morelli, Vatican Shadow and Clap! Clap!
Praed is Raed Yassin and Paed Conca. The former is from Beirut and is mainly known as a performance artist with exhibitions all over the world. Paed Conca on the other hand is a Swiss experimental musician. Together they create an extremely danceable mix of Arabic Electro Shaabi and impro-psychedelics. Straight from the Lebanese underground!
