Tue 03 – Sat 06 December 2008

From the 3rd to the 6th of December 2008 Etoiles Polaires and Vooruit will organise a new music festival, focusing on Montréal, Canada this time.

The Montréal music scene has gained quite some recognition over the past years. Bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion and Set Fire to Flames galvanized a new music wave linking rock and experiment. The recent breakthrough of rock bands such as Arcade Fire, Patrick Watson and Gonzales have really put Montréal on the music map. What typifies the scene (and the city) is its non-conformism. Major labels and ostentatious concert halls are sparse, but there are plenty of underground / indie projects and cosy clubs instead.

It is not uncommon here that one musician plays in several different bands. During their sabbatical the members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor have swarmed out over numerous other music formations. One band’s drummer is another’s guitarist and temporary projects quickly succeed each other. The whole scene is positively thriving.

The programme for the festival will strike a balance between established bands, experimental side projects and up-and-coming artists. We’ll also launch a couple of new collaborations.
