A perfect blend of adventurous music and experimental film

This 44th edition of Film Fest Gent once again sees Vooruit and Film Fest Gent joining forces. In October 2017 a select group of musicians will hit the stage with their own hand-picked film selections. The adventurous Ghent-based combo STUFF. will lay down their own interpretations of a number of iconic film scores by Howard Shore. Legendary prog-rockers Goblin and the ambient supergroup Gaussian Curve will also descend upon Vooruit, each with a unique live show.

Over the years Film Fest Gent and Vooruit have developed a beautiful tradition centred around the combo of music and film. In past years this has given us many memorable moments. Just think back to the sold-out show by instrumental doom ensemble Earth accompanying the Japanese cult film ‘Belladonna of Sadness’, the South-African Shangaan electro and 3D visuals of Nozinja or the unforgettable visit of minimal composer Terry Riley and his son Gyan.

Clearly a tradition worth being continued. For eleven days, Film Fest Gent will be inviting the most exciting musicians of the moment, who in turn will be working with their own selections of film material. A unique combination of film and image with electronica, jazz, avant-rock, ambient and sound art: the possibilities are endless. Expect one-off projects, unexpected combos, new perspectives on forgotten film gems, 3D animation, hallucinatory music videos and eccentric cult cinema.

We’ll be working with a number of fine Ghent-based partners to make this happen: Stroom.tv, Art Cinema OFFoff, Gouvernement, Springstof and All Eyes On Hip Hop. Vooruit will once again become the meeting point for all of Film Fest Gent’s music-related events. Discover the full programme below!
