After adapting Shakespeare’s ‘A Winter’s Tale’ in 2009’s ‘Bakchai’, Jan Decorte has now decided to tackle ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ by the godfather of English literature. True to form, he has changed the title to ‘niks of niks’ (nothing or nothing) and he has also applied his signature touch to the language with a heavily poetic, innocently charming and disturbingly brutal style.
The play follows the story of two couples: Claudio and Hero are head over heels and decide to get married on a whim, while Benedick and Beatrice can’t make their aversion of love clear enough. Until hearsay, deception and misunderstandings take their toll and turn the entire situation upside down.
Jan Decorte and his wife Sigrid Vinks will be joined on stage by Herwig Illegems, who you might remember as ‘Duts’ or the annoying neighbour from ‘Van Vlees en Bloed’.
