“A must-see that will stick with you. Food for thought!” –Vooruit visitor Nora on www.vooruit.be on Verdonck’s previous show ‘K, a Society’
“Sleep is generally considered a waste of time. The way I look at it, sleep is anarchistic, not in the destructive sense, but rather dangerously constructive. Without sleep, our ideas and our knowledge become superficial mass products and therefore easy to set aside. Our ideas become less dangerous. The ensuing contradiction is amazing: by doing nothing at all, man becomes more productive and his knowledge more in-depth, thereby making him less vulnerable in a world that is flooded with information and choices.” – Kris Verdonck
Just how much can actors and directors influence the mood of the viewer? Can you steer and manipulate the perception and consciousness of the viewer by playing with theatrical elements such as light, sound, movement, language and scenography? That’s the central question Kris Verdonck and Alix Eynaudi put forward in ‘Exit’. And the duo is prepared to go to extremes for their research: they want to find out if they can lull the audience to sleep… For once, you won’t have to be embarrassed when you fall asleep during a performance.
