In times of constant acceleration and competition, the BERLINAIRE filmfestival calls cineastes to put some emphasis on the most important theme of all: ”love is all around”.

With short films, documentaries and reports about intense devotion, hidden emotions, sold warmth and false love, the film festival will round off the BERLINAIRE weekend. Parallel to the screenings, there will be plenty of room for debates, networking and interaction with producers, artists, editors, directors, scriptwriters and other cinephiles. The synergies will emerge to a fully-fledged international platform for the young film in the course of the event series.

Artists from all over Europe may submit their film and compete for the two trophies of the event. Der Atze, the Berlin synonym for “older brother”, will be presented as the main prize and is awarded by a jury of five international film professionals. Der Keule, the smaller award, stands symbolically for “little brother” and will be selected by the audience of the festival.

The judges are:
  • Professor Dr. Dieter Kronzucker: a highly distinguished world-traveler in the field of journalism for German television.
  • Nicolai Kinski: a famous film actor; recently, he starred in Æon Flux alongside CharlizeTheron.
  • Ruben Impens: one of Flanders most wanted cameramen. Steve + Sky, Dagen Zonder Lief, De Helaasheid der Dingen, Aanrijding in Moskou are a just small grasp from his work.
  • Elias Grootaers: a documentary filmmaker and a lecturer in documentary film from Ghent. He became famous with his stunning documentary, ‘Not Waving, But Drowning’.

The winner will be announced on Saturday 9 April, 07:30 p.m. in the Balzaal.
