At this event, students will be able to ask burning questions about Congo as a colony and about the independent republic it is now. The evening will also focus on the connection between present-day Belgium and our former colony. On the 28th of October, students of the History Department at Ghent University will have a debate with David Van Reybrouck, whose tome ‘Congo. Een geschiedenis’ (Congo: A History) has been included in the shortlist for the AKO Literatuurprijs (AKO Prize for Literature).
One week later, on the 4th of November, they will grill Erwin Mortier, who recently published ‘Afscheid van Congo’ (A Farewell to the Congo), which sees him following in the footsteps of former district officer and author Jef Geeraerts.
Apart from students, avid book readers are also more than welcome. Be quick though: there is only a limited amount of tickets available.
