In her native Turkey, Nil Karaibrahimgil is one of the biggest pop stars of the moment. She is known for her frank lyrics, with subjects such as love, marriage and relationships, and the fear of getting older.
She became a role model for Turkish women by sending out messages such as, “I am free” and “I am perfectly able to sustain a career and be a mother at the same time.” Several of her songs topped the Turkish charts, which is saying something in the hyper competitive Turkish music industry.
In 2009, she released her latest album, ‘Nil kıyısında’ (‘On the banks of the Nile’), which included big hits such as ‘Seviyorum sevmiyorum’ and ‘Duma duma dum’. After performing in London in 2007, the BBC called her the “Turkish Björk”, because of her unusual outfits, videos, interviews, her ironic lyrics and fresh melodies.
Her shows are highly entertaining. You will not only hear great Turkish pop by a ballsy Turkish gal, but you’ll be able to feast your eyes as well! An absolute must for everyone who wants to discover Turkish pop with a message!
