20:00 BRENNA MACCRIMMON & BAND
Brenna MacCrimmon is known as a singer of Turkish folk songs. She has performed and recorded with Selim Sesler, Muammer Ketencoğlu and Baba Zula. She’s also featured in ‘Crossing the Bridge’, Fatih Akın’s documentary film about the Istanbul music scene. Back in Europe, she has recorded with Balkan artist and DJ Shantel.
Her fresh interpretations of old folk songs have made her popular with a whole new Turkish audience. Her latest album ‘Kulak Misafiri’ received rave reviews in Turkey, the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada. This tour focuses on the album, brought to you by a carefully selected group of musicians with a passion for the sound and energy of Balkan and Turkish music.
22:00 GEVENDE
Gevende is not your average Turkish band. This band from Istanbul makes remarkable psychedelic folkjazz with a noteworthy lineup – viola, trumpet, clarinet, electric guitar, bass and drums. The guitarist sings in an imaginary world language, resulting in an amazing performance that breaks down barriers.
You’ll hear Turkish influences, but the band specializes in a type of music that can’t be labelled. Call it avant-garde folk jazz rock or psychedelic world fusion. Gevende is a pleasure to watch, so don’t miss this show!
