Fasil is light classical music that first became popular with the aristocracy in the Ottoman Empire. The genre is now commonly played in bars and restaurants in Istanbul. The Istanbul Fasil Ensemble consists of professional musicians that interpret Turkish classical music as well as Fasil.
Fasil is traditionally accompanied by a raki table, which includes finger food (mezze) and Turkish national drink raki. The audience is invited to enjoy the music in a relaxed atmosphere, in which it is common to sing along and dance.
During the ‘Week van de Smaak’ – a Flemish culinary festival- in October 2009, the ensemble gave a delicious concert at De Centrale. At this concert, you’ll be able to try mezze prepared by professional Turkish chefs.
Members of De Centrale can’t order discount tickets on this website. These are only available at the Vooruit Box Office and De Centrale.
