The sound of the Tindersticks consists of layered melodies, a bucket of melancholy, a wide variety of instruments and mumbled, poetic lyrics. Frontman Stuart Staples is blessed with a dark baritone voice and the air of a disillusioned crooner in the style of Leonard Cohen or Nick Cave. In 2005, 3 of the band’s 6 members left right after the release of their fifth album. Three years on, it seems like the event was a boost for their creativity. The Hungry Saw (2008) was a warmly received summary of their past work, and 2010’s Falling Down a Mountain explores new paths, ‘you could even say that they’ve delivered a vibrant album.’ (Focus Knack)
