‘I Need a Dollar’ by Aloe Blacc must be the biggest hip hop smash of the spring: all the big radio DJs, from Strictly Niceness to Gilles Peterson to our own Lefto, have been playing this song non-stop for the past couple of months. Multi-instrumentalist Blacc has a unique style, which takes cues from Cat Stevens and traditional Negro spirituals.
British artist Ghostpoet is considered one of the most talented young guns on Gilles Peterson’s Bronswood label. He is mainly influenced by Rick James, Fela Kuti and Badly Drawn Boy.
