Witness a marriage of East and West, with Anouar Brahem as your master of ceremonies. This Tunisian French musician brings together his Eastern musical heritage with Western elements such as jazz and chanson. This results in magical jazz music with an Eastern touch.
Brahem is an innovating and internationally renowned player of the oud and is often compared to oud legend Rabih Abou-Khalil. On ‘Le voyage de Sahar’, his previous album, Brahem combined the oud with the piano and the accordion, an unusual lineup. “His unique use of influences and instrumentation is revolutionary. Brahem is at the forefront of jazz because he is far beyond it” – The Guardian
Brahem is back with a four-piece band and ‘The Astounding Eyes of Rita’, his new album released on ECM. The elegant melodies are still there, but they’re more zesty thanks to the added clarinet and percussion. “The symbiosis between the dark strings of the oud and the clarinet is one the biggest qualities of the album. The music remains refined though, with beautiful melodies and a great talent for improvisation” – De Standaard
Anouar Brahem (oud), Klaus Gesing (bass clarinet), Björn Meyer (bass) & Khaled Yassine (percussion)
