“one of the best dance performances I’ve ever seen. The shadow play was incredibly clever and perfectly in sync with the music” – Ellen on Albert Quesada at Korte Metten on www.vooruit.be

Did you know that you can’t only watch dance, but also listen to it? Albert Quesada (graduate from P.A.R.T.S.) and Vera Tussing investigate what happens when you shut your eyes during a dance performance. Can you visualize a choreography by just hearing the movements? These two dancers delve deeper into the relation between music, movement and our senses. By playing with light and shadow, voice and music, eyes open and eyes shut, they lift their performance to a higher level.

‘Trilogy’ consists of three short performances: ‘Beautiful Dance’ (2008), ‘Your Eyes’ (2009), and ‘Vocal Cords’ (2011). The duo performed one of them, ‘Your Eyes’, at Vooruit’s Korte Metten in 2009, where it was the highlight of the evening. ‘Beautiful Dance’ was a minimalist choreography to Glenn Gould’s interpretation of Beethoven’s piano sonata 13, in which Quesada and Tussing unravelled dance as an acoustic phenomenon. ‘Your Eyes’ was an impressive shadow play. For the final part, ‘Vocal Cords’, the duo will focus on the voice, seeing it as the point where music and the body meet. How can the voice, music and dance come together? And what is the connection between rhythm, tone, timbre and significance?
