“The Superamas make light-hearted theatre, chockablock with pop tunes and action. It’s really wonderful to watch.(…) They examine the relationship between art and politics, the vague distinction between reality and fiction, the influence of the media, etc. If you think about it afterwards, it’s amazing how this collective manages to fit all this into a piece of an hour and a half, without ever being dull or pedantic.” (Josie on www.vooruit.be)
And… Action!
Since performing the BIG trilogy at Vooruit in 2008, the Superamas have been regular guests at Vooruit. They have high ambitions for their new project. Not only will they present their new performance ‘YOUDREAM’, the piece is also intended to be the precursor to a TV series! The underlying idea is to let theatre infiltrate television and vice versa.
In ‘YOUDREAM’ we witness the filming of a TV show featuring eight contestants from several countries. They met on a social networking site where people share their dreams with each other. But then the stage turns into a set where their dreams become reality. What is real and what is imaginary? What is theatre and what is film? Who are the actors and who are the viewers?
The Superamas make references to Hollywood and the entertainment industry, which have turned into dream factories: powerful companies that make your wildest dreams come true. Reality is cut up and edited; illusion becomes more real than reality itself. The Superamas play around with these ideas in their trademark style: sexy images, a garish set, hilarious scenes, a dose of camp and an ambiguous message.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s a wrap!
