2009 was a great year for Philippe Quesne. Not only was he asked to perform all over Europe, the audience and the critics also loved his work. Vooruit visitor Ellen described his 2009 piece ‘La Mélancolie des dragons’ as “Probably the best thing I’ve ever seen at Vooruit” on www.vooruit.be and the VRT called it “a masterpiece”.

As always, Quesne will take the title as the starting point for his new piece, the title of this performance being ‘Big Bang’. What Quesne and Vivarium Studio will do with that title is still a mystery, but the makers associate the term ‘Big Bang’ with a gigantic explosion, a scientific revolution, evolution theory and campy onomatopoeic words in comic books. It also brings to mind an island, cavemen, a new beginning, a microcosm of losers wanting to recreate the world, and so on. ‘Big Bang’ will develop like an evolution theory, with radical change, inventions, disappearances and mutations in a time and place where humans and animals live together, silence and language coexist, and everything and nothing coalesces.
