“I greatly admire Oberzan. He played without the help of other actors for two hours, while staying perfectly synchronized with the images behind him. Quite a feat! But Oberzan did it effortlessly and gave a convincing and thrilling performance!” – Comment left on www.vooruit.be by Vooruit visitor Maarten on Oberzan’s performance in ‘Rambo’ by the Nature Theater of Oklahoma last season.

Playing scenes from movies or series, we’ve all done it as kids. But Zach Oberzan is still doing it as an adult. Last year, he impressed the audience with his version of Rambo, made with his theatre company Nature Theater of Oklahoma. This season, he’ll be returning with a performance of his own.

As kids, Zach and his brother Gator loved making parodies of Jean-Claude Van Damme movies. Twenty years later, the brothers try to recreate these childhood movies. A remake, as Hollywood would call it. By now, Gator has gained several pounds, overcome drug addiction and served a prison sentence. Clips from Jean Claude Van Damme’s ‘Kickboxer’, amateur footage of a teenage Zach and Gator and new material are interwoven, while Zach also intervenes on stage.

Oberzan’s fresh enthusiasm is contagious, while the difficult relationship between the brothers is poignant. ‘Your brother. Remember? is a powerful performance by one of the hottest actors of the moment. In a four-star review, the NRC Handelsblad wrote that “[Oberzan] has a powerful stage presence that lifts the performance to a higher level.” Kassys was equally impressed and asked Oberzan to work with them on ‘Cliffhanger’, their new performance which can be seen at Vooruit in March.
