A composer and a scenographer experiment with the concept of the camera obscura. You might think it’s an unlikely combination, but the results are surprising. The camera obscura is the predecessor of the camera: a sealed box with a small opening for light. What takes place in front of the camera is projected onto a surface inside the box. In ‘C.O. Journeys’, the audience steps into a giant camera obscura. Ragg & Baillie take them on a journey where fiction and reality meet, aided by biographies and documentaries. But not all of these sources are reliable…
Christoph Ragg has previously worked with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and has mainly been active in the art collective C&H in the past years. ‘The Nickelodeon’, the installation they showed at the 2008 Courtisane festival was highly memorable: the actors played scenes from films such as ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, ‘The Bourne Supremacy’ and ‘Bambi’ on a stage framed by aluminium bars. British composer Joanne Baillie makes contemporary classical music, with influences as diverse as J.S. Bach and Morton Feldman. Her work has been performed at the Venice Biennale and on BBC Radio 3 and by many other ensembles. She has also written music for choreographer Brice Leroux’s creation at the KunstenFESTIVALdesArts.
- For the performances on the 15th and 16th of October, you can also get a combined ticket for this event and the performance by Zach Oberzan and Andrea Belfi & Mirco Santi.
