“Energy, emotion, magic and goose bumps, a divine triumvirate of music, dance and performance art, a top-notch performance.” This message was left by Vooruit visitor Nel on www.vooruit.be, describing how impressed she was with ‘nieuwZwart’, the show by Wim Vandekeybus and Ultima Vez in Vooruit last year. The show combined a dance choreography with music by Mauro Pawlowski and a text written by Peter Verhelst. This time, Vandekeybus will focus on another one of his favourite mediums: film. The choreographer, who once considered a career in directing, wrote the script and is also the director.
More than just wondering about the meaning of the images, the viewer is also to feel an emotional reaction to them. Swinging from solitude to happiness, dancer Damien Chappelle interacts with the fictional characters of the film. He dances on the line between reality and the imaginary world of the film, which is suggested but has never really existed. Or has it?
