In ‘Zomergasten’ (‘Summerfolk’), a group of Russian friends spends their summer holidays in a house in the country. They talk about raising their children, love, marriage, literature, life, etc.
They drink tea, chat and play, enjoy the sunshine and the water. But something is up. The company of notable intellectuals, members of the bourgeoisie, the Russian elite, is nervous. As they await the event that will change their lives forever, they depend on each other as they frantically try to hold on to their frail position.
Maxim Gorky wrote ‘Summerfolk’, ‘Dachniki’ in Russian, in 1905. The story is a dramatization of the lives of the Russian bourgeoisie and Russian artists and their view on the social changes at the beginning of the 20th century.
Regular STAN actors Jolente De Keersmaeker, Sara De Roo, Damiaan De Schrijver and Frank Vercruyssen will be joined by guests Tine Embrechts and Robby Cleiren (De Roovers).
Zomergasten was previously announced as ‘misschien wel de meeuw. of toch eerder zomergasten’.
But STAN has now opted for the play’s original title, ‘Zomergasten’.
