David van Reybrouck wrote an impressive history of one of the world’s most turbulent nations: ‘Congo, een geschiedenis’ (A history of the Congo). For the first time, he describes the astonishing history of the Congo, from long before explorer Stanley’s discovered the country to the influence of China in the past ten years and the recent economic crisis. As well as basing himself on rare archive documentation and spearheading research, he also interviewed hundreds of Congolese citizens and integrated their stories in this book.
The author will talk about his remarkable book, 50 years of Congolese independence, and the turbulent history of the former Belgian colony with Flemish TV journalist Annelies Beck.
