Bosque Brown

Pitchfork has referred to Bosque Brown singer Mara Lee Miller as “the Texan answer to Beth Gibbons (Portishead)”. She recorded her debut EP in 2005 with the help of songwriter Damien Jurado. In the meantime, Bosque Brown evolved into a full-blown band, including Mara’s sister Gina on backing vocals. Bosque Brown toured with Two Gallants, John Vanderslice, Will Johnson and The National. The sound on their 2009 album, Baby, is more layered than ever, featuring dark country and folk with gospel influences.

The Bear That Wasn’t

With his charming and fragile guitar songs, Nils Verresen knows how to charm an audience. His debut album, which he will be presenting at this concert, promises to bundle the best of Badly Drawn Boy, Great Lake Swimmers and Damien Rice. You probably also know Nils from his ‘365 dagen’ project, for which he travelled the country for a year with nothing more than his bike and his guitar.

“With The Bear That Wasn’t’ (real name Nils Verresen), Belgium can pride itself on a fresh talented singer songwriter. Armed with a sparkling acoustic guitar and an angelic voice, this young fellow from Genk performs beautiful folk songs with country influences reminiscent of Sufjan Stevens and Elliot Smith.” – Kwadratuur
