Luca Scarlini, playwright and author, will talk about ‘The Mystical Machine, building alternative visions’. The lecture is linked to the work made with CREW for Line-Up. The core of this project is the invention of a world that is linked to theological sources remade for contemporary visions. Very well known images change radically when they are changed and transformed, according to different perceptions. The lecture will explore this vision from the beginning of cyberpunk culture to now, not revealing the secrets of CREW’s shows, but giving a context to this work, between pop culture and contemporary art.
Access to the lecture is free. Anyone who wants to combine the reading with Line Up. Line Up for reservation is required and places are limited!
Luca Scarlini (1966) is an essayist, playwright and performance artist. He is teaching at the Fine Arts Academy in Milano and works with many theatre and dance companies. He has been working on the relationship between historical avantgarde, futurism and contemporary art. His latest books: La paura preferita, Lustrini per il regno dei cieli. Luca Scarlini acts as advising dramaturge for Line-Up.
With Line-Up CREW takes an important next step in the exploration of the immersive and performative medium and technology. With Line-Up you dive into the world of mythical imagination. You enter the story, the actors on the inside take over. The world where you end up hide turmoil under its surface. It is real … and timeless. Line-Up is an immersive adventure for 5 people simultaneously.
Line-Up is the sequel to EUX, the one-on-one presentation that delighted visitors earlier this year in Villeneuve-les-Avignon, Kortrijk, Zurich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Ghent and Hasselt.
As a part of Trans Digital Arts Centre Vooruit teamed up with Crew and Eric Joris for several years to come. Every year Crew resides at Vooruit for some weeks, conducts research and presents the work in progress , lectures and presentations.
