Note: The concert will not take place at Vooruit, but at De Centrale (Thu 5 Nov) and De Beursschouwburg (Fri 6 Nov). The show received support of the Cassette music lab, where musicians can experiment and develop projects. The lab was founded by Flat Earth Society’s Peter Vermeersch and Vooruit. Cassette is also funded by De Centrale, De Handelsbeurs, De Bijloke Muziekcentrum Gent and the Ghent Conservatory.

Nature and Practice is a music project that investigates the nature and mechanisms of music improvisation, drawing inspiration from the book ‘Improvisation: its Nature and Practice in Music’ by Derek Bailey. Mathias Van de Wiele (Moker, Chopsticks) had the idea to turn the concept of the book – which features interviews with improvisation musicians from diverse music disciplines and cultural backgrounds – into a live concert with Sandip Banerjee (tabla), Zeger Vandenbussche (saxophone), Bart Maris (trumpet, electronica), Fulco Ottervanger (keys), Mathias Van de Wiele (electric guitar) and Giovanni Barcella (drums).
