This film’s title is a great synopsis of its topics and interests. From the dialogue and analysis by a group of prestigious intellectuals (people like Ignacio Ramonet and Noam Chomsky, among a total of thirteen), the film is meant to describe the current world’s situation in relation to the different principles of the reigning neo-liberalism. The role of the state, privatizations and deregulations, their origins and the possible future derivations are analyzed by well-respected voices of contemporary thought, with images that take those abstract concepts to real and concrete people and situations. Filmed in 16 mm and a sober black and white, which gives the movie an elegance and distinction rarely seen in this kind of documentaries, “L’Encerclement” goes beyond the informative dimension and reaches an attractive cinematographic category.
