SHEARWATER
Last season you could catch Shearwater for free in the Vooruit Café, and after that they toured with Coldplay and performed an impressive set at the Polsslag festival. Their album Rook proved to be one of the best releases of 2008, and Jonathan Meiburg (formerly of Okkervil River) and his band mates have now returned to the studio to record their next album. Who knows, they might even give us a little taste of what’s to come during this concert in Vooruit’s Balzaal.
KRAKOW
Singer-songwriter Lisa Germano once called to the music of Belgian band Krakow “as pure as the heart is.” The band was so inspired by this quote that they promptly named their 2007 debut album after it. The album was sensitive and subtle, situated somewhere between South San Gabriel and Low, a path they further explored on their next album Far-Away Look. On top of that, Humo wrote that their singer, Nina Cipolletti “only needs a few seconds to make anyone between 8 and 88 fall in love with her soft, silky voice.”
