“You choose our clothes. You watch us as we sleep. You prepare our lunch boxes. You take money from our piggy bank and promise to pay it back later.” These are just a few of the observations the child actors (aged 8 to 14) make about grown-ups in That Night Follows Day. For the very last performance of this internationally successful production the company returns to its hometown Ghent. The script by Tim Etchell – author and director with British company Forced Entertainment, one of Europe’s most prominent performance companies – never turns into children’s drama, but makes for a surprising play about education and the world parents project onto their children. Pure, endearing, confronting and recognizable for parents as well as everybody who’s still in touch with their inner child.
