The date is 2 November 1938. As Mexico celebrates The Day of the Dead, Geoffrey Firmin and his wife are trying to save their marriage: he can’t stay off the tequila, she had an affair with his half brother Hugh. But their good intentions soon turn into an emotional and dramatic confrontation. Onder de vulkaan draws a portrait of a man who doesn’t see a way out and is lost in his own clouded mind. After his Tryptiek van de Macht (Power Triptych) – Mefisto for ever, Wolfskers & Atropa) and staging Bezonken Rood and Hersenschimmen, Cassiers now once again tries his hand at a literary classic with Under The Volcano by Malcolm Lowry. For this project he will work with fine actors such as Josse De Pauw, Marc Van Eeghem (De Parelvissers) and Katelijne Damen (De Smaak van De Keyser).
