Musician Johan Derycke previously performed at Vooruit with the successful Jazzlab project Cyclophonics, which provided a live musical commentary to the dune cyclo-cross in Koksijde. But he often composes scores for silent films as well. For his live score of Go West, one of Buster Keaton’s lesser-known gems, he will perform the soundtrack live with a real band for the first time. In Go West, Keaton wants to try his luck in New York, but ends up on an Arizona ranch. Here two women conquer his heart: his boss’s daughter and Brown Eyes the cow, which he wants to save from livestock transport no matter what. The live performance with the Kamikaze quartet emphasizes hilarious slapstick moments as well as tension in this classic Keaton film. Of course, there is also room for improvisation, enthusiastically provided by Kristof Roseeuw and Tom Wouters of the radioKUKAorkest, Bart Maris (Flat Earth Society, Moker) and Filip Wauters (Backback).
