Together with drummer Han Bennink and pianist Misha Mengelberg, Michael Moore – who’s originally from the States, but has been living and working in The Netherlands for several years – is one of the most prominent figures on the Dutch jazz scene. The clarinettist and saxophonist has performed with both these renowned musicians several times, as well as with Dave Douglas and Gerry Hemingway. In 1986 Moore won the Boy Edgar prize, the most important Dutch prize for jazz and improv. He has made more than 50 recordings and released his latest album in 2008, which featured a collaboration with young pianist Harmen Fraanje. De Volkskrant wrote the following about his warm and pure performance on the piano: “Performing an incredibly sweet melody in a way that it hits you like a punch in the face is something saxophonist Michael Moore is particularly good at. Never sentimental, but always moving.
