Two women, two generations, each with their own frustrations, in a hard confrontation. After the party is over, one uninvited guest refuses to leave, and an argument with the hostess ensues. The unexpected row between two unstable women reveals their weaknesses and their powerlessness… The duo Wine Dierickx (Wunderbaum, NT Gent) and Marijke Pinoy (Compagnie Cecilia) previously gave a brilliant performance in Yema vraagt een toefeling and Mouchette. This time, the two worked with a text by born storyteller Arne Sierens (Compagnie Cecilia), who is also the director. The poetic title (‘monkey sorrow’) refers to the Dutch name for the Monkey Puzzle tree, a conifer native to Chile and Argentina, a living fossil, the only remaining survivor of a species that became extinct centuries ago.
