Robin Verheyen is one of the most promising young talents on the Belgian jazz scene. At just 25, he has studied and worked in Amsterdam, Paris and New York. In 2008 he was the deserved winner of the Django d’Or prize for Young Talent at the Gent Jazz Festival (formerly Blue Note).
For his new quartet he gathered several musicians, including Bill Carrothers, who has played with renowned musicians such as Dave Douglas and Toots Thielemans. In June the quartet will play at the Paris Jazz Festival, but not before making a stop at Vooruit.
“Verheyen plays the saxophone like a painter, placing layer upon layer on the canvas. He has found like-minded spirits in drummer Dré Pallemaerts, bass player Nicolas Thys and pianist Bill Carrothers, three experienced and feeling musicians.
