74-year-old Misha Mengelburg is considered the godfather of Dutch jazz and improv. He’s mainly influenced by John Cage, Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington. He made his debut on Eric Dolphy’s last album. He played with drummer Han Bennink for years, performed all over the world and was honoured with a Brit Award. The key to his success is his creative skill on the piano. He’s a sound wizard with his own unique sense of timing.
He will give three concerts together with French guitarist Jean-Yves Evrard, who recently conquered hearts with his live score for the play Altijd Prijs by Arne Sierens (in Vooruit from Wed 1 to Sat 11.04). Evrard has also performed several times in Vooruit with Mâäk’s Spirit.
