Ansatz der Maschine is an unsurpassed indietronic project by sound engineer Mathijs Bertel. He blends acoustic guitars, sax and violin with a lot of distortion, electronica and dreamy melodies in the style of Helios, The Notwist, múm, and Fennesz.
Music blog Kindamuzik wrote the following about his first full-length album The Postman Is A Girl (2006): “an abstract, musical trip, on which clever clicks and cuts parade bravely next to mild guitar riffs.” Apart from critical praise, the album also earned him a spot as the support act for Do Make Say Think, The Album Leaf, Bonobo, and Hanne Hukkelber. In February 2009 Ansatz der Maschine released their second album Painting Bad Weather On Her Body. Live, Bertel is assisted by three musicians and magical visuals.
Mathijs Bertel (elektronica, violin & keys), Bram De Vreese (sax & guitar), Jan Dhaene (drums, rhodes & moog) & Ruben Vercaemer (sax, rhodes & moog)
