On Saturday evening we will close off the two-day Tickle Your Catastrophe conference with a series of performances. This evening you will see work by several artists that portray, destroy or await the catastrophe in anticipation.
ANT HAMPTON – THE AUDIENCE
Ant Hampton is a theatre director, a writer and a performer. In his slide performance the audience is visually bombarded with a variety of landscapes that (threaten to) collapse under human meddling. This performance is part of a larger online project by Ant Hampton and Britt Hatzius with the title This site could be yours. In Ghent the piece will be performed by Kurt Vandendriessche.
MARC VANRUNXT – BLACK NEGATIVE
Dancer, choreographer and performer Marc Vanrunxt has been making performances for over 20 years. Two of these, Raum and Showtitle # 63 BLACK MARK, could previously be seen at Vooruit. With his performance Black Negative he articulates the catastrophe in a five-minute scream. He drew inspiration from The Population Explosion (1969), a throat-singing concert by American poet/composer Anthony Gnazzo.
NAEEM MOHAIEMEN – ON FAILURE

Mohaiemen is a Bangladeshi writer and artist, working in Dhaka and New
York. In a lecture/performance he will talk about failed revolutionary
movements. Utopia/dystopia, civil rights, and security are themes in
his work (www.shobak.org).
HANS BRYSSINCK – IF ONLY MY BROTHER WOULD GIVE ME HIS CHAINSAW…

(c) Reyn Van Koolwijk
Performer Hans Bryssinck will hold a seventeen and a half minutes-long Safety Instruction, a statement – or anti-statement – about the future of the stage. In this spontaneous, short performance Hans Bryssinck wants to make contact with power tools. He hopes to uncover some of their secrets and frustrations. Just like the Log Lady in Twin Peaks, Hans Bryssinck will be the voice for the things you might not hear yourself. This way, the power tools might provide the answers to certain questions. But who will warn him about the warning?
Bryssinck was also a guest at last year’s the game is up, performing One Man Snow together with Christoph Hefti.
Performed by Hans Bryssinck & Brecht Bryssinck / With a work of Kwinten Lavigne: L’ho Perduta (megaphone)
PETER CUSACK – SOUNDS FROM DANGEROUS PLACES
Peter Cusack is a British sound artist, musician, and researcher specialized in environmental sound and acoustic ecology. At Vooruit he will present his most recent project, Sounds from dangerous places. He lets us hear contaminated soundscapes from places that have suffered major environmental damage (e.g. Chernobyl).
