The weird and wonderful music of Erika Stucky proves that yodelling and alphorns can be very rock ‘n’ roll indeed. The American singer became wholly engrossed in yodelling in the Swiss mountain village of Mörel. Stucky – who appeared in the documentary Heimatklänge at last year’s Film Festival – cleverly blends folklore with jazz and pop and performs hilarious covers of Queen and Britney Spears. Talk about flexible vocal chords!
Erika Stucky will open Almost Cinema 08 and is the ideal warm-up for the documentary Young@Heart, which introduces you to unexpected musical talent and hit songs in fresh versions:
A senior citizen belting out a Ramones song? Or an elderly lady shaking her booty to James Brown? The Young@Heart chorus, average age 81, bursts with energy and joie de vivre. Stephen Walker’s heart-warming documentary shows the chorus’s rehearsals, a concert at the local penitentiary and their sell-out concert in hometown Northhampton (Mass.) But for certain members, health problems arise and ask a heart-breaking toll…
