Last year saw singer-songwriter Alela Diane shoot to fame with her widely acclaimed album The Pirates’ Gospel, entirely set up around her voice and her performance on classic guitar. Her acoustic songs are minimalist and fragile, but also have a dark side. It is therefore not surprising that she is often compared to Karen Dalton, Joanna Newsom and CocoRosie. However, Alela Diane has been able to hold her own in the freak folk and singer-songwriter universe.
