Porcelain stands for fragility, but also for power and status. The dancers in The Porcelain Project manipulate piles of porcelain cups, bowls, vases and shards scattered across the stage or floating in the air. Their moves mirror the tangible objects on stage. With this performance Grace Ellen Barkey, founding member of Needcompany, breaks down the barriers between theatre, dance, performance and visual arts. The score includes soundscapes by Maarten Seghers, violins by Rombout Willems and others, and contemporary classical music by Thomas Adès. The text fragments were inspired by the mental illness of king George III.
